This is the first episode of the podcast and I wanted to give you a little introduction to who I am and what this podcast is all about.
I’ve been in business with Meyne since 2014 developing blogs and websites for small business, and before that, actually since 2011, I was a blogger myself in the DIY and home decor world.
2 Things I Learned About Blogging and Blog Design:
Over the years of blogging myself, and designing and developing other blogs, I’ve learned a few things…
One is how quickly design trends come and go. So often what this led to is a blogger spending thousands on a new blog design that was really pretty, but it really actually help them achieve their goals. Not only that, it would look dated in a year.
So they spent thousands and they’re having to set aside thousands again for a new re-design that still won’t help them achieve their goals.
Another thing I’ve seen over the years and was guilty of myself, is that most of us bloggers tend to only think about looks when it comes to our design and not about strategy. What putting looks first in a design leads to is usually nit-picking and obsessing over each pixel. Don’t get me wrong, I am a perfectionist and want everything exactly in its place, but the question we need to ask when thinking about details is “Is this the right thing to be obsessing over?”
Is that one pixel going to get you closer to your blog goals? That’s usually a big “No.” Most visitors could stare at a side-by-side for hours and not be able to tell the difference between a design change that is so important to us as the blogger.
So rather than obsessing over one tiny detail in your design, it would be so much more helpful to focus on the goals and the strategy you’re going to use to get to those goals.
When we focus on that, the little details like an exact color or placement of a certain line become far less important.
Because what you really want your visitors to do is to take action…to help you achieve your goals to help them. And that’s when you’re going to have success.
Obsess Over Your Strategy and Growth Plan, Not Your Design
It’s not when you have every single line in the exact width or exact shade. Again, don’t get me wrong, those things are important to me, but they’re not the things to obsess over.
So in this podcast, I really want to help you put the strategy first in your blog and make sure that’s what you’re obsessing over and driving towards.
And then I want to show you ways to implement that strategy and make it look beautiful too, because we still want you to have a really good looking blog. One that will set you apart, in looks AND in how it attracts and interacts with your readers.
So you’ll get short weekly talks that you can take action on and move forward towards your blogging goals. Each week I want it to be short and simple and take forward and DO until you hear the next episode.
If you want to get a feel for what kinds of changes I’ll be helping you make on your blog, download the free printable checklist that will lead you through a strategic audit of your blog. Click here to get it.
In episode 2, we’ll be going over how to make an instant connection with your readers. It’s a quick thing we’ll go over, and it’s not difficult, but it’s something I still see bloggers not implementing. So I’m looking forward to talking with you about that.
